It is much more than just a game

Over the years as a Blades supporter, I began to realise that football is more than just kicking a ball around a pitch, that in fact it is a powerful tool acting as a gateway to get people talking about what matters, after all what happens on the pitch is only ever the start of a conversation, but absolutely does not have to be the end of it.
In 2023, I joined Rainbow Blades and in 2025 became a member of the committee, why did I do this? Because I believe that sport is a lens through which we can talk about pretty much anything. My connection to the LGBTQ+ community came from my sibling who transitioned from a man to a woman and like me wanted to attend football games, there needed to be more trans visibility in football, so I became an ally of Rainbow Blades.
Did I want to be become an activist no, but I wanted to support groups that provided a place to talk about shared interests like football and connect with people on a different level, after all it is much more than just a game!
