Tony was transferred to Sheffield United on 1 February 1968 for £26,500. He scored on his debut against Tottenham Hotspur with a header on 26 February. 'TC' or 'Top Cat' as he was nicknamed by Sheffield United fans, was idolised in his time at Bramall Lane. He went on to score 54 goals in 313 appearances and was also made captain by manager Ken Furphy in March 1974. In September 2014, as part of the club's 125th Anniversary celebrations, he was named Sheffield United's Greatest Ever Player.

 

TC has a stand and suite named after him. On this TC said "I couldn’t believe it when they told me they were going to name it after me. What an honour. But they didn’t have to. In fact it should be me honouring them. Seriously, I owe this club everything. It is no exaggeration to say they saved my life.”

 

TC says “My late friend, Len Badger was a Rainbow Blades Ambassador and believed in total equality, diversity, and inclusion. Being a Rainbow Blades ambassador was important to Len and it is just as important to me, because United should be for all. Absolutely everyone who loves the Blades should be able to do so without their fellow fans being derogatory & using sexual orientation or gender identity as a way of conveying weakness. There has never been a place for hate at Sheffield United and there never will be. I’m proud to be an ally to our wonderful LGBTQ+ community; let’s continue to truly make United for All."
